Define Account Groups and Field Selection (Vendor)
In this tutorial, you will learn how to define account groups for vendors. When you create a vendor, you must assign an account group to that vendor. Therefore, these account groups must be defined in configuration before vendor creation.

STEP 1: Following is the path to DEFINE
ACCOUNT GROUPS AND FIELD SELECTION
- IMG activity path: IMG > LOGISTICS – GENERAL => BUSINESS PARTNER => VENDORS => CONTROL => DEFINE ACCOUNT GROUPS AND FIELD SELECTION (VENDOR)
- Transaction code: OMSG
STEP 2:
Click on execute button to create the new ACCOUNT
GROUP (Following type Window will open),
STEP 3: If
you want to introduce new account groups, SAP recommended that you should copy
the existing ones and only then make the necessary changes. This enables you to
test the new account groups at this stage (e.g. with regard to partner determination)
even if you have not yet specified the remaining data. So now
to create the new Account Group, first we will select the one of the Suitable
Existing SAP Group & Click on Copy As button
STEP 4:
Following type Window will open. Update the Following Data
ACCOUNT GROUP: Give 4 Digit Account Group
Code . the Code keys should begin with the letter Z since SAP keeps these name
slots free in the standard R/3 System
GENERAL DATA
- Name: Give Account Group Appropriate Name
- Number Range: Click Here to Know More on how to assign the number range
- One Time Account: Select the Indicator if you want to create the vendor are one time vendor you can specify whether an account group is just for one-time vendors . For vendors that you only deal with once, their data is entered into the document and not as master data
FIELD
STATUS : In this section you able to configure the
system to show or to not allow users to enter information into certain fields.
Following is the Procedure
- Choose the any one of field status from option General Data, Company Code , Or Purchasing Data, and then click on Expand Field Status or Double click on selected Filed. Lets us do the configuration for “general Data” by selecting & clicking on "Expand Field Status " Button or double clicking on it.
- For the general data screen following type Window will open. These are the Address, Communication, Control, Payment transactions, and Contact person groups. Double-click on the group you want to configure. Let us do the configuration of “Address” option by double click on same
- Following type Window will open. Here you can make certain fields either a required entry or an optional entry because they all are in this figure; display only, or suppressed. This configuration becomes specific to the account group that is entered when a Vendor Master record is created
DATA
Retent. Levels: Purchasing
- Vendor Sub-range relevant : Indicator denoting that data can be stored for a vendor master record at sub-range level.
- Plant level relevant : Indicator denoting that data can be kept in the vendor master record at plant level.
Default
Values : This text is displayed when you generate
reports or call documentation, for example.
Copy Default
Values for Material from Vendor Master
This field controls how default values for material
master and purchasing info.records, which can be maintained as part of vendor
master data processing, can be transferred from the (existing) material masters
and purchase info.records that are relevant for the vendor in question:
' ': do not transfer any data
'A': only transfer purchasing info.records

'B': only transfer purchasing info.records
(without confirmation popup)
'C': only transfer material master records
(with confirmation popup)
'D': only transfer material master records

STEP 5: Click
on Save Button to store Configured data.
SAP Recommendation
- The production system should contain only the account groups that are needed.
Prerequisites
- For an account group, you must have specified a number range. This in turn requires the predefinition of the number range (see Define number ranges for vendors).
Standard Settings
- The SAP R/3 System comes with typical account groups already preset.
